The United States Department of Labor reports that there were 4,693 worker fatalities in private industry in 2016 and over 1 in 5 of those worker deaths were in construction. Aside from highway collisions, the leading causes of death in construction were falls, being struck by an object, electrocution, and caught-in/between incidents. These “Fatal Four” accounted for over 60% of construction worker deaths in 2016. Meanwhile, there were some 2.9 million reported, nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2016. Given the extent of under-reporting, these numbers are likely much higher.
When a work injury or death occurs the injured worker and/or their family should first turn to a worker’s compensation attorney to help maximize any worker’s compensation benefits available. But in certain circumstances, the injured worker and/or their family may have more than a worker’s compensation claim. It is critical to hire a lawyer who will help fully assess the rights of the worker and their family.
The Eshman Law Firm investigates and litigates liability cases arising from work injuries and deaths and regularly partners with worker’s compensation attorneys to help injured workers and their families maximize their recoveries. The firm has already helped injured workers and their families recover millions of dollars for their injuries.
